The HydraFacial – A Perfect Blend of Cleansing, Exfoliation, & Hydration

Christine Zullo, PA-C with Natura Dermatology & Cosmetics – Coconut Creek, Explains How The HydraFacial Can Help Rejuvinate Your Skin.

Your skin is a precious organ that is worth caring for so making sure it stays strong and healthy is of utmost importance.  It’s important to practice basic skin care treatments to protect your skin from environmental and aging factors.  Basic skin care can easily be accomplished by wearing sunscreen, cleansing the skin, moisturizing, and performing mild exfoliations.

Let’s take a look at how you can achieve luminous looking skin:

Sunscreen – It’s important to get in the habit of applying sunscreen to sun-exposed areas every day.  An SPF greater than 30 is sufficient for daily use.  And remember to reapply!

Cleansing – Find a cleanser that meets your needs; a moisturizing cleanser for dry skin, an exfoliating cleanser for oily acne-prone skin, and a gentle cleanser for normal skin.  Avoid hot water, as it is very drying to the skin.  And always remove makeup before the end of the day.

Moisturizing – Choose a moisturizer without preservatives, numerous chemicals, or strong fragrances.  A water-based, oil-free moisturizer should be applied at least once a day, if not twice daily.  Look for products that are non-comedogenic and have ingredients that include cetyl alcohol, cetearyl alcohol, silicone, cyclomethicone, and hyaluronic acid.

Exfoliation – Mild exfoliations will help speed up cell renewal and reverse sun damage.  It also diminishes fine lines and wrinkles.  Exfoliation does not need to be an abrasive process.  Creams, gels, cleansers, and mild procedures can help remove the outer layer of cells and prime the skin in a gentle manner.

And once those are done, one of the most important factors in keeping your skin looking healthy and radiant is keeping the skin hydrated.

The HydraFacial™ resurfacing procedure provides all of that with a four step process that will care and improve the quality of your skin:  cleansing, exfoliation, extractions, and hydration.  It is a non-invasive procedure that delivers immediate results and provides long term benefits with its use of antioxidants, peptides, and hyaluronic acid.

By cleansing and exfoliating, the unique spiral design tips prime the skin by removing dead cells, revealing healthy new skin.  A gentle acid peel is then applied to loosen up the debris and clean out the pores.  The extractions are performed with a slight suction to remove stubborn sebaceous material to make your skin feel clean and smooth.  Lastly, antioxidants and hyaluronic acid are infused deep into the skin to replenish the hydration lost through aging and drying topical medications.

Topical products are essential in maintaining your basic skin care regimen.  But it is equally as important to give yourself a booster procedure to add that extra benefit.  It’s like brushing your teeth every day and still going to the dentist for a teeth cleaning.  Why not give the same respect to your skin?

    Hello,

Curious about this facial as it sounds so luxurious and good for the skin. I am presently using Obagi with a .5% retinoid cream added to Obagi BLENDER on average, three times per week. Do you think this facial would be too much exfoliation for my skin? Continual retinoid exfoliation causes my skin underneath to feel tender… so my concern is not to use anything that would over-do it. I can get dry skin build-up and my skin could use the infusion of moisture.

    Thank you,
    Victoria Steele

p.s. Dr. Richardson remains in my prayers, as I credit him with saving the life of someone I love…catching melanoma in time, before it had time to become invasive. Love you, Dr. Richardson:-)

    • Hello Ms. Steele,

Thank you for your comment and interest in the Hydrafacial. It is great to hear that you are maintaining your skin with Obagi and retinoid creams. Yes, many of these skin care products can be very drying and irritating to the skin. That is why it is beneficial to get the Hydrafacial done. Although it is exfoliating and extracting your skin and pores, the technology behind the facial allows for continued hydration during the process and the infusion of antioxidants and hylauronic acid into the skin. We recommend stopping any retinoid use at least one week prior to your Hydrafacial, and you can restart it about a week after the treatment as tolerated.

We hope this answered your concerns. If you’d like to make an appointment don’t hesitate to give us a call at 954.537.4106.

Also thank you for your kind words about Dr. Richardson, we will pass your compliments on to him!

      Thank you!
